            John Mc Donnell’s injury time goal rescued a point for Killowen following an action packed encounter with Crescent Athletic on Saturday. The sides played out a 3-3 draw in the corresponding fixture last October and as Crescent, who are the draw specialists in A.U.L. 2A, arrived in Killowen intent on gaining maximum points. They got off to the best possible start with the opening goal after 2 minutes, a cross from the right wing took a wicked deflection that deceived home ‘keeper Billy Sheehan. The lead lasted a mere 3 minutes as Killowen drew level courtesy of Owen Braun’s third goal in two games when he headed in Greg Constant’s measured free kick. The same pair combined again in the 8^th minute as Constant’s corner reached the unmarked Braun at the far post but he failed to divert his header goalwards. Constant’s deliveries from set pieces had Crescent in all sorts of bother, his free kick from the right wing found Michael Moore in space but Moore couldn’t get a clean strike on goal. Crescent’s first attack of note occurred in the 24^th minute, a Killowen attack broke down allowing Crescent to break at pace, but after working the ball into a good position they failed to trouble Sheehan. Player/ manager Braun turned provider after 31 minutes as his knockdown found Declan O’ Brien whose shot from distance whistled past the upright. A thumping free kick from midfielder Constant forced a wonderful save from the Crescent custodian with the follow up effort also palmed away to safety. However,  Constant found his range on the stroke of half time. Killowen were awarded a free on the edge of the area and Constant’s perfectly struck free kick gave the opposing ‘keeper no chance.

            Killowen’s slender advantage lasted until the 56^th minute, from a threatening position in midfield, Killowen needlessly lost possession allowing Crescent to break at pace down the right and finish with a well taken goal. Crescent sensed the game was there for the taking and were handed a great opportunity in the 76^th minute as the Referee penalised Killowen for an infringement in the area. That opportunity was spurned as Sheehan got down well to block the spot kick. Killowen had another let off two minutes later when a free kick from distance cannoned off Sheehan’s crossbar. The action swung to the other end as Braun’s surging run and pass set up Paul Lynch who was denied by the Crescent ‘keeper’s bravery. Killowen were penalised again in the 86^th minute when the referee spotted another foul inside the area. This time Crescent made no mistake from twelve yards despite Sheehan’s best efforts. Crescent did create one final chance in the 89^th minute, shooting wide from inside the area after a cleverly worked free kick. With the game deep in injury time Killowen launched one final attack which yielded a corner kick. It was fitting that Constant’s delivery found the head of Mc Donnell who glanced a header over the keeper  to end Killowen’s recent run of defeats.
